MUSCULOSKELETAL THERAPY
Musculoskeletal therapy has many techniques in common with different forms of massage; however, it is important to know musculoskeletal therapists have a thorough understanding of anatomy and physiology, in particular the muscular, nervous and skeletal systems. By understanding these systems and the effects your daily activities have on them, musculoskeletal therapists (MST) also appreciate how manual ‘hands on’ therapy may benefit a person as a standalone therapy or as part of a health program with GP’s and physiotherapist meaning musculoskeletal therapy becomes an integral part of your healthy life.
Musculoskeletal therapy is effective in reducing or managing pain by addressing the original source of the pain and stopping the painful nerve firing at its source. To find these original sources of pain musculoskeletal therapists use an array of range of motion, special and functional tests to determine what maybe causing your musculoskeletal dysfunction. Musculoskeletal therapists use a wide range of techniques during a treatment session which may include stretching, active resisted movement of limbs, direct compression of the muscle tissue and gentle joint mobilising techniques all of these are aimed at reducing or eliminating pain and returning the body to your normal functioning.
